We’re commonly asked: How well do you have to be able to swim to scuba dive?
Well, the answer might surprise you. You don’t have to be anywhere near pro standard swimmer to be able to learn to scuba dive. With PADI, the requirement is that you have “basic swimming skills.”
The Minimum Swimming Requirement to Scuba Dive
You have to be able to swim 200m (or 300m in mask, fins and snorkels).
You also have to be able to tread water for 10 minutes.
So by no means do you have to be a phenomenal swimmer to scuba dive, but you do have to have basic skills and go a reasonable distance.
